Increasing data traffic is starting to put pressure on Mobile broadband services in the UK, according to new research.
A new study by research body Informa suggested that a massive rise in levels of data could be expected over the next few years, and that current technology may be inadequate for keeping up with that pace.
Speaking to PC Pro, Dimitris Mavrakis, an analyst at Informa, said that problems could be curbed through the use of long-term evolution (LTE) services, but warned that these will not be introduced for some time.
“We’ll see initial deployments by the end of 2010.” He said.
“I don’t expect it to be a force before 2011 or even 2012. Some big operators say they don’t expect LTE until 2015.”
Mr Mavrakis’s comments have come after O2 announced plans to launch a trial of LTE mobile broadband in the UK, and could be piloted from the start of next year.
