Mobile phone users confused about moving networks

New research has shown that a large number of mobile phone users are avoiding switching networks as they fear losing their numbers.

According to comparison website uSwitch, two million people wrongly believe that they will lose their phone number if they try to move to another network.

One of the problems has been that, even though it is possible to port a number once a special authorisation code has been requested from the existing provider, it can often take days for the process to be completed.

Matthew Wheeler, communications expert at uSwitch, believes more needs to be done to speed this up and hopes Ofcom, which has been working on a way to improve the process, can resolve the situation soon.

He said: "We only hope that it clears this up once and for all so that consumers can start reaping the rewards of switching to a better deal. Talk is cheap – but we now want to see some action."

A recent survey by reward points company Nectar found that a fifth of British workers are so reliant on their business mobiles that they keep them on over the weekend.ADNFCR-2811-ID-19671006-ADNFCR
