Expert claims iPhone problems will not affect popularity

A mobile phone expert has suggested that the antenna and signal issues with the new iPhone will not affect its popularity.

Apple recently accepted that there had been problems with the iPhone 4 and, after investigating, has confirmed that the system of calculating signal strength will be reconfigured.

The issue arose when the phone was gripped in a particular way, leading to users having to change the way they hold it or buy a case.

Despite this, Flora Graham, mobile phones editor at CNET UK, explained how the signal problem was not a new one and why it will not necessarily affect the handset’s popularity.

“It’s never been very comfortable to use, it’s never had great signal, it’s never had a great antenna and no one ever really cared.

“The fact that the iPhone remains kind of a [bad] phone when it comes to actually making calls, doesn’t really matter because it’s so fantastic at everything else that it does and calls are kind of dying out.”

At the end of June, this was revealed by Apple itself, which subsequently apologised that 600,000 units had been sold on the first day the iPhone 4 became available for pre-ordering.ADNFCR-2811-ID-19875153-ADNFCR
