phone & broadband for business
A number of observers have questioned whether new business mobile users will be attracted to Microsoft’s latest offering.
The computing giant unveiled its new operating system, Windows Phone 7 Series, recently at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
Clearly an attempt to fight back against Apple, RIM and other competitors, it is a complete redesign of previous software the company has made for mobile devices.
Writing for PCWorld, David Coursey claims that Microsoft did not talk enough about business users when it presented the operating system, while the software itself seems aimed at consumers with its aesthetics and general feel.
He says: "It demonstrates beautifully, but how will it work when fully loaded with a busy user’s contacts and other information?
"How will it deal with a glut of Facebook friends and business social network updates? Will the animations help or get in the way?"
In eWeek, Nicholas Kolakowski also questions whether other companies have forged ahead with the number of applications available for their operating systems. For example, while Apple has over 100,000 in its App Store, Microsoft currently only has 1245.
