Businesses help mobile phone industry out of recession

The mobile phone industry has emerged from the recession following a strong final quarter to 2009, it has been revealed.

A recent report from iSuppli showed that worldwide shipments increased by 15 per cent in the period between October and December, reaching 335 million units.

Meanwhile, with smartphone growth among businesses and individuals expected in the coming year, this is predicted to support the industry further.

Tina Teng, senior analyst for wireless systems at iSuppli, said: "Given the recovery of the market in the final quarter of 2009, and with Europe, Latin America and the Middle East/Africa regions doing exceptionally well during the period, the recession can be said to be officially over for the cell phone industry."

Furthermore, iSuppli highlighted that the top five handset vendors were responsible for 77 per cent of shipments in the fourth quarter, with Nokia leading the way from Samsung and LG.

Nokia held a 37.9 per cent share of the market, with Samsung having a 20.6 per cent share and LG owning a share of just over ten per cent.

Businesses were recently given the chance to provide staff with a new handset from Nokia, after the company released the 6700 Slide model.ADNFCR-2811-ID-19749475-ADNFCR
