Wi-Fi legislation could boost business broadband demand

A business broadband connection may become even more vital if fears regarding public Wi-Fi networks are realised.

Under the Digital Economy Bill, which is currently going through parliament, providers of public Wi-Fi connections could become liable for any offences committed by users, such as copyright infringement.

According to Mark Jackson, editor-in-chief of ISPreview.co.uk, an internet service news provider, this will make it riskier for businesses such as cafes or even libraries to provide Wi-Fi connections.

He said: "The natural knock-on effect would be a lower desire for enterprising individuals and companies to help setup and run community wireless schemes and services.

"We may also see fewer Wi-Fi hotspots in general, which could impact businesses as well as ordinary people."

Businesses that have previously relied on Wi-Fi hotspots for an internet connection may now want to consider getting business broadband.

It is also important that they keep their connections password-protected, in order to prevent outside users from taking advantage of them and illegally downloading music or films.ADNFCR-2811-ID-19651154-ADNFCR
