Vince Cable’s constituency get fastest broadband speeds

Companies with business broadband deals in the constituency of Liberal Democrat treasury spokesman Vince Cable benefit from faster speeds than the areas of other politicians, it has been determined.

Constituents in Twickenham can expect average download speeds of 9.38Mb/s, according to Top10.broadband.com, which is quicker than the broadband received in other constituencies.

Chancellor Alistair Darling gains 7.03Mb/s in his district of Edinburgh South West to take second place in the research, followed by Lib Dem shadow energy spokesman Simon Hughes in North Southwark & Bermondsey.

In terms of the party leaders, David Cameron’s Witney constituency is the fastest for broadband speed, followed by Nick Clegg in Sheffield Hallam and Gordon Brown in Kirkaldy and Cowdenbeath.

Alex Buttle from Top10.com said: “Broadband and the future of our internet infrastructure have become big election issues since the debate over the Digital Economy Bill.

“We are still seeing a notable gap between those enjoying super-fast broadband speeds and others lagging behind well below the national average.”

A recent poll by business information website FreeIndex found that 53 per cent of smaller firms feel that the Liberal Democrats are the party that will do the most to help them grow.ADNFCR-2811-ID-19749606-ADNFCR
