Small firms ‘likely to see greater advantages from cloud computing’

Cloud computing is likely to provide more advantages to smaller business broadband users than larger companies, it has been suggested.

Michael Dean, head of marketing at the IT industry body the National Computing Centre, said that businesses have generally come around to realising the benefits that cloud computing brings.

However, he believes that small businesses are likely to be able to make the transition more easily than their larger counterparts.

"There is still a lot of trepidation and only a small fraction of organisations are actually doing anything serious," Mr dean said.

"Large organisations with complex infrastructures may need time to understand how to make the most effective transition, but smaller organisations with simpler infrastructures are likely to see the advantages and move more quickly."

Recent research by IT consultancy 2e2 found that 68 per cent of organisations feel that there are significant risks in migrating to the cloud because of the complex and interdependent nature of their in-house IT infrastructures.ADNFCR-2811-ID-800497432-ADNFCR
