Broadband and phone cancellation fees slashed

Cancelling landline and broadband accounts early could soon cost much less, with Ofcom announcing that charges are to be reduced by as much as 85 per cent.

Interpreting the Unfair Terms in Consumer Contract Regulations 1999 – which communications providers are obliged to follow – Ofcom has expressed that people who choose to end accounts ahead of time should have to pay only what is left on the contract.
Meanwhile, switching broadband providers has recently been made easier, with Ofcom’s introduction of the mandatory Migration Authorisation Codes, which identify individual lines and allow for the smooth transfer of ISPs.
