Owners of small businesses in the UK are risking their health and wellbeing by not taking a holiday this summer, new research has found.
Almost one-sixth of leaders of small firms will continue to work this summer, while 38 per cent intend to stay close to home.
More than a quarter (29 per cent) of those planning to take a holiday in 2010 will take less time off than they have in the past, the study from Make It Cheaper discovered.
Jonathan Elliot, managing director of the price comparison service, said: “This is important downtime and shouldn’t be cut short because you are worried about the business.”
The survey also found that one in three business owners who are going on holiday this year will travel to Europe, while 14 per cent are taking a luxury trip to a long-haul destination.
Fears about staying away from work during the current economic conditions were cited as a contributing factor when deciding destinations by 31 per cent of respondents.
