Political leaders should explain to small businesses how their parties will help them to build on the fragile economic recovery, businesses groups say.
The Federation of Small Businesses is calling for each party to set out their proposals in small business “mini manifestos” so that business owners can review local candidates and hold the winning party accountable.
Mark Prisk, the shadow business minister, said the Conservatives would give detail of small business proposals in the coming weeks, while the Liberal Democrats’ business spokesman, John Thurso is due to set out plans this week.
Stephen Alambritis from the FSB said that given the the importance of private sector growth for the economy’s recovery, the business community deserved to know what the parties have planned.
The FSB plans to put pressure on the parties by mobilising its members in marginal seats. Mr Alambritis said they would pay for hustings meetings in 40 constituencies to make clear that the small business vote could influence the outcome of the elections.
