Forgettable URLs causing damage to business

Unmemorable website addresses could be damaging small businesses, IT outsourcing for small business users have been told.

A poll by web hosting provider Streamline.net found that a fifth of consumers find it difficult to use sites which have confusing or unmemorable addresses.

Younger shoppers were found to have even less tolerance for hard-to-remember addresses, with one-third of 16 to 35-year-olds saying they cause problems.

Steve Holford, marketing director at Streamline.net, commented: “There is a real danger their work and investment on the web can be undermined by the simple fact that consumers cannot remember their URL.”

David Gruehn, industry solutions director for retail at software giant Microsoft, recently said that firms should make better use of technology to connect with shoppers.
