Employment outlook ‘not that bleak’

Prospects for the UK job market are not as dire as they could be, a recruitment website has claimed.

Jobsite noted that there are more vacancies now than there were 12 months ago, despite concerns about public sector redundancies.

A spokeswoman for the site said that these opportunities have been witnessed across a number of industries and a variety of sectors, so they are not just openings for a "select few".

"It's important to remember as well that whilst the public sector will be making cutbacks they need to retain a certain level of staffing to be able to offer their services," she added.

"To stand the best chance of moving from the public to private sector, workers need to ensure they look at their transferable skills and demonstrate how the experience they have is relevant to the private sector role."

Most recent figures from the Office for National Statistics show that there has been an increase in the number of people in employment in the three months to September compared to the same period last year.
